One-upmanship

He had been bitten by a cat and had 5 stitches. He wanted to show Monica, the owner, his stitches, and she was grossed out and didn’t want to look. She asked me if I was squeamish. I had one of those moments of wondering, does she want me to answer truthfully, or make nice and say something normal?
Y’all can probably guess where this is going. I said, I used to be squeamish but I’ve had to do some stuff lately that I never thought I’d be able to do.
The man asked if I wanted to see his stitches, or if I’d be grossed out. I didn’t hesitate to one-up him. I said, 5 stitches? Dude, I had a double mastectomy; 5 stitches is nothing.
I think I might have ruined his day. But, a little perspective is a beautiful thing.
Sweet! I would have loved you to show him your stitches. Cat bite indeed!
Awesome! OK, so how did he react?
That’s what I want to know.
That is probably the most fun you could have without losing a leg.
He was cool and if he was shocked, he hid it well. He said something about how I should show him the scars. I rolled my eyes, told him there’s no way he could handle that, and walked out of the store.
Cat bite??? I’ve had cats all my life. Never a bite that required stitches. Wonder what he did to deserve that?? Good idea to not show him your scars. Creeper!!
You go, girl! Good for you! I wonder if the cat survived.
